Dont want things to change, status quo (afraid of change) Individuals who are very opposed to what is going on. Not only want to stop new ideas, but go back to what existed before. More likely to use violence to achieve goals. There is no philosophical basis, you must be moderately conservative or liberal. They kind of like things the way they are going but could see some improvement. Want to do something new, want change fast. Based on a set of beliefs or values, a world view. What government should do and should not do. Liberal- liberality meant in ancient times a person who was civil. John locke, british philosopher, referred to father of liberalism. People are inherently good, well behaved, and can control themselves.
