Document Summary
Foundations of assessment: assessment systematic, standardized procedure for measuring a psychological construct by observing a sample of behavior and describing it with numerical scales or categories, test = assessment = measurement. Why are we assessing: collect information on individual differences for use as a predictor, identify and select applicants with qualified ksao"s, evaluate employee needs for training, evaluate employee development for feedback and/or promotion. What are we assessing: individual differences that are valid predictors of performance criteria, performance criteria needed to evaluate an employee. Where do assessments come from: specially made by employer/consultant to fit needs of position, pre-existing assessments purchased or administered by consultants. General characteristics: speed vs. power test. Speed test assessment with a demanding time limit in which individuals try to complete as many items (or tasks) as possible. Items not completed don"t count against final score. Power test assessment without a rigid time limit in which individuals try to correctly complete all items.
