PSYC 334 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Social Network, Social Isolation, Emotional Isolation
Document Summary
Friendships distinguished from family because they are voluntary. Friendships distinguished from romantic because they provide emotional intimacy/assistance. Responsiveness: emotional, you"ll be there for me when i need you, communal responsiveness. Capitalization (can be with any intimate partner): when something good happens, you share it with your friend, they are happy for you, and in turn you are happier, capitalizing on good feelings. The more social support you have, the better off you are. Perception is strong, if you believe people are there for you it can be effective in eliminating negative things. Proximity seeking: 3 y/o son wants to be on mom"s lap all the time. Safe haven: source of comfort in stress (when something bad happens, seek out mom as safe haven) Secure base: foundation for exploration (looking back to make sure mom is there while playing at the park) Dyadic withdrawal: withdrawing into your couple/dyad, see more of a lover and less of friends.
