Interpretations: good/normal people can do horrific things given the right conditions. Nazi soldiers were not natural sadists they were just following orders. Most in that strong bureaucratic situation could have committed those atrocities. 65% of people shocked the other person until the end. Many nazi soldiers were not just following orders . Holocaust allowed them to act on heir hostility toward jewish people. Kohlberg"s studies- disobedient participants were more morally developed. Obedience gave participants an excuse to give into their internal aggression. Obedience increases with distance -> one can be aggressive without having to take responsibility. Need to draw a line between the leaders responsible and the people like me forced to serve as mere instruments. Interview non-jewish rescuers and bystanders during the holocaust. Social responsibility, internal control, less negative stereotypes of jewish people, close relationships with jewish people before he war.
