Ex: an nba player shoots better during games than practicing by himself. When learning something new, the likely response will probably not be positive. Having others around us arouses us (makes us alert, mentally-aware, and physically aware of ourselves and our surroundings) hyperaware . This arousal enhances our dominant responses- more likely to do whatever our default is. We are less affected by others when around those whose opinions do not matter to us. Self-concious people are those most influenced by people. This effect is found in animals, who are not typically self conscious.
