Document Summary

Emoions are a subsecion of afect (from the a of abcs of phycology) Emoion is relaively short in duraion and associated with physiological response: sad= crying. Can"t cry for 48 hours straight, but you can be sad for 48 hours straight. Moods can last longer because they do not have a physiological response associated with it. Basic emoions: darwin- thought that facial expressions were inborn. Everyone knows how to make a happy face. Someone who is born blind will make these facial epressions: anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, surprise, echman- there are facial expressions that go along with them. Microexpression- brief facial expression of the real emoion that you are feeling. Since basic emoions are insinctual, then you need to express what you are feeling for a split second at least. It happens really quickly- so it is usually masked to what you usually want to portray.
