PSYC 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 32: Opponent Process, Electromagnetic Radiation, Visible Spectrum
Document Summary
Perception: ability to see objects in three dimensions; enables us to judge distance. Visual cliff: once babies are old enough to crawl they have developed depth perception and will not cross off a cliff. Monocular cues: methods used by one eye to judge depth perception. Relative size: objects that appear closer than they are. Interpositional objects that are closer block objects that are farther. Light and shadow: objects that are closer are brighter. Motion parallax: when you are driving the scenery looks like it is moving. Objects that are closer appear to be moving faster. Atmospheric perspective: objects that we can see through the fog are closer. Texture gradient: the closer you are the more you notice texture. Binocular cues: methods used by both eyes to judge depth perception. Retinal disparity: as an object comes closer to us the differences in the images in the eyes becomes greater.
