Document Summary

Sculpture area: i would describe this space as an appendix of a public space. One simply passes through the area and admires the stature without having to adjust their path to avoid it. It also contrasts the tall statue in the circle, causing it to stand out more: there are small plants around the entrances to the circle that grow taller as they reach the middle of the circle. This creates an interesting vibe, enclosed at the middle yet permeable at the walkway. I think this is exactly what the designer wanted, intimacy yet still a public space: the overhead space is completely open to the sky & sun. I think the design intentionally blocks the views people rushing about the main area in hornbake plaza because the main focus is the sculpture: i think the space is a great place to stop and admire the statue.
