Safe drinking water act - authorizes epa to limit contaminants in public drinking water supply systems. Very difficult to get a new contaminant listed - only 1 has been added in. Bottled water is not regulated by sdwa it is my fda. Waste, price, environmental impact of extraction on source area. Clean water act (1972) - purpose is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the nations waters. Goals - eliminate all discharges and fishable/swimmable waters by forcing technology but it was unrealistic and unattainable. Prohibits the discharge of pollutants from a point source into navigable waters without a permit. National pollution discharge elimination system (npdes) permit. Nationally uniform effluent limits set by the epa.
