Founder john michael kohler began this revolutionary company after he turned a pig trough into a new style of bathtubs. His design became an instant hit and soon the company"s presidency shifted to the second eldest son of john michael. Under the leadership of walter kohler, the company grew steadily within 35 years and became one of the most well-known names in plumbing fixture manufacturers. Throughout the years as family members passed, the company changed hands mostly within the family. This alone is very unique as most companies have outsiders running the company. However, each ceo was the son or relative of the last, keeping the company true to the kohler family. One of the most effective presidencies was that of herbert kohler, jr. who, during the 1970"s, put the company ahead of its competition.
