Waste gases are blown into electrostatic precipitators/acid scrubbers and then through baghouses. Ash residue is extracted, cooled, and dumped in a landfill: drawback- they can release small amounts of metals and acid gases into the atmosphere, and they are super expensive to make. Recycling should be encouraged for everyone but it is important to know that certain recycling works and certain recycling can be harmful. The market for recyclable paper is glutted and overflowing. Cradle to cradle design- ecologically intelligent approach to architecture and industry that creates materials, buildings and patterns of settlement. This design sees human systems as nutrient cycles in which every material can support life. Technical nutrients circulate through industrial systems in closed loop cycles of production, recovery, and remanufacture. Plasticizers- disrupt human endocrine system, cadmium-carcinogenic, lead- neurotoxin: vocs volatile organic compounds- some are suspected carcinogens and immune system disruptors, energy efficient buildings can make things worse , air quality worse.
