SOC 322LEC Lecture Notes - Lecture 23: Influenza Vaccine
Document Summary
Signs that gender inequality is losing some of its power in nurse-doctor relationships. Male physicians tend to regard male nurses as more competent than female nurses and to treat them accordingly. Male nurses are also less passive in their interactions with doctors and less likely to play the doctor-nurse game. May be part of the reason they are responded to as authoritative. Female physicians were not as likely to play the dr-nurse game with either sex nurses but they were also more likely than male physicians to have their actions questioned by nurses. Also more likely to welcome interactions with nurses. Female doctors may be more open to being questioned, may not all be gender biased, but it certainly is still there by some. Men"s representation among licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses grew from 3. 9 % to 8. 1% from 1970 to 2011. Average 60. 7k per year while women earn 51. 1k per year.
