Phi 107: primoratz: what"s wrong with prostitution? : Disease, humiliation, exploitation, other social problems: paternalistic (making decisions for other people even when they know the risks and should be able to decide for themselves, weak paternalism can be okay sometimes, but strong paternalism isn"t. Sex is a blocked exchange : some people have a traditional view and believe sex is for procreation only and in marriage. Primoratz disagrees: romantic aspect (sex is essentially tied to love), loveless sex is seen as worse than loving sex, so comercial loveless sex should be illegal. Intimacy (yet gynecologist is intimate and not degrading: selling oneself (yet we sell our identity through ethnic art, we serve others and sell our time at jobs for money) Feminism (prostitution is oppressive): women"s innocence is valorized, violence, male-female asymmetry, language (bang, screw=both violent)
