Proteins: animal, vegetable, composed of carbon, hydrogen, water, and nitrogen. These make up amino acid blocks that make up tissues and new cells. Vitamins: water soluble lipid soluble, no calories, but vitamins are needed to metabolize. Other components of food (phytochemicals) plant based chemicals nutrients that release energy during their metabolism. Nutrients that don"t release energy during their metabolism because they do not have any calories: vitamins. There are 13 vitamins, each with a unique structure.
