Breakdown in communication = errors = can threaten professional credibility. !1: humility- necessary to recognize & communicate the need for more info before making a decision; you won"t know everything. Levels of communication: intrapersonal - occurs w/i individual. Inner thoughts strongly in uence perceptions, feelings, self-concept, behavior. Be aware of nature & content of your own thinking. Ex: practicing what you say on the phone, (+) af rmations, thinking over a conversation after you have it: interpersonal - one-to-one interaction; most frequently used in nursing. Takes place in social context; includes all symbols and cues used to give & receive meaning. Messages received can sometimes be different from the message intended: transpersonal - occurs w/i a person"s spiritual domain. Ex: prayer, meditation: small-group - interaction between 2 or more persons meeting together.
