Nikola tesla determines that electromagnetic devices can send and receive energy that can be translated to sound. Guglielmo marconi develops wireless telegraph that can send morse code. 1920s: radio becomes a one-to-many form of mass communication. Consumers buy home radios to receive broadcast signals. Networks (cbs, bbc, and nbc) are established. Advertisers decide to sponsor radio shows and buy radio time. Radio was dominant media for home entertainment. Movies also big but not at home. Rock n" roll emerged near the end of the golden age. Also adapted as movie starring tom cruise 2005. Martians occupied several areas of the country. Ny: hundreds of people fled from their homes. Pittsburgh: a woman threatened to kill herself because she would rather die this way than that. Bham: people gathered at churches and prayed.
