1/31/17- empires in conflict (ii): europeans, indians, and africans in the colonial southeast. In 1712 in new york, slaves burnt down places in the city and attack white people. As a result, 7-8 slaves were executed to set an example. Lots of conflict in the southeast due to the different european colonies that came together, and british attempted to impose authority on landscape. Had origin in wave of british expansion. Land grant for the carolinas is used by charles ii to try to pay off some of his supporters. Intended as an aggressive challenge to other european powers. British est. a permanent residence called charles town in 1670. 1691 they created a separate governing body for north carolina making it a separate colony. South carolina is a colony of barbados. Barbados was growing too big and so they headed to charles town.
