Barriers to entry of pathogens (disease-producing microorganisms: skin, stomach acids, tears, vomiting. Specific defense mechanisms: immune response enables the body to recognize and remove specific bacteria, other foreign cells, viruses, antibodies, t cells. Circulatory, lymphatic, and immune systems work together. Digestive tract is considered to be outside of the body (in anatomy) Stomach acids counts as a first line defense. Sweat helps to make it really hard for bacteria to survive. Our tears have digestive enzymes and so does our saliva. Non-specific are always deployed in the body and step up should a bacteria get past the first layer. Second line of defense non-specific (fever is an example)
