Cooing-ooh ah, babbling- ba ba ba, one word utterances, 2 word utterances building on previous words(orderly), directional- it gets more complicated as you go along and moves forward, mostly stable. Quantity- we know more than the baby. Qualitative- i have apples, you have pizza. Kid saying they want their sandwich cut into 4 instead of 2= quantity. Kids don"t feel/think about death the same way that we do- they don"t understand properties of death= qualitative. Some buy into quantitative- continuous (terrible twos-certain age) - learning theory. Qualitative- discontinuous- stage theory (freud), cognitive development (piaget) Are genetic or environmental factors the most important determinants of child development and behavior. Biology and context- influence how we think, makes us who we are. Importance of context- development doesn"t stop in adolescent.
