Motivations: psychological and biological processes that impel people, and other organisms, into action and sustain their efforts over time. Drive: psychological state that, by creating arousal, motivation an organism to satisfy a need (hunger, thirst, money) Need: state of biological or social deficiency (food, water, oxygen) Physiological - basic bodily needs, such as the need for food, water, and sleep. Safety/security - freedom from physical or economic threats. Social/belongingness - being accepted by members of a group and identifying with groups that succeed. Ego/esteem - tackling important projects that bring prestige, status, and recognition from others. Self-actualization - fulfillment through engagement in challenging, innovative, creative projects. Criticism for maslow"s hierarchy is that there"s not a lot of empirical evidence that these levels are fixed. Sometimes you can be high up on the chart but then something happens and you"re threatened so you move down the hierarchy.
