Safety/security - freedom from physical or economic threats. Social/belongingness - being accepted by members of a group and identifying with groups that succeed. Ego/esteem - tackling important projects that bring prestige, status, and recognition from others. Self-actualization - fulfillment through engagement in challenging, innovative, creative projects. Criticism for maslow"s hierarchy is that there"s not a lot of empirical evidence that these levels are fixed. Sometimes you can be high up on the chart but then something happens and you"re threatened so you move down the hierarchy.
