The classical concerto: forms of movements: 1st movement. Sonata form, theme and variation, rondo, or other: 3rd movement. Double-exposition sonata form: exposition, development, recapitulation (which has a cadenza, there are two types of exposition: one is for the orchestra alone, another is with the soloist. More staccato, echoing between sections, changing keys, embellishments on the major themes: the tonic key (home key) is in the orchestra exposition. The modulation to the second key occurs in the middle of the solo exposition. The key moves around during the development, and then returns to the tonic key: cadenza= virtuosic passage played by soloist while orchestra is silent or paused (holding their notes). ***know the main themes (first and second themes) for concertos and sonatas. Classical opera: opera seria continues (serious italian opera, comic opera (opera buffa) rises in popularity. More comedic than opera seria (not totally comedic, themes are lighter and characters are funnier)
