Very old people had an increase in suspiciousness and sensitivity. Current consensus of change in the big five with increasing age: absence of neuroticism, presence of agreeableness and conscientiousness. Studies also show a decrease in openness to new experiences with increasing age. Personality traits tend to be stable when data are averaged over large groups of people: specific aspects of personality in specific kinds od people there may be less stability and more change. Dispositional traits are the level of personality most people think of first and they include commonly used descriptors such as shy, talkative, authoritarian and the like. Trait: any distinguishable relatively enduring way that one individual differs from others. Trait theories- assume little change in personality occurs across adulthood. Explicitly contextual in contrast to dispositional traits.
