Learning is a relatively permanent influence on behavior knowledge, and thinking skills, which comes about through experience: behavioral emphasis on experiences especially reinforcement and punishment, as determinants of learning and behavior (classical and operant conditioning b. f. Type of learning in which an organism learns to connect or associate stimuli. In the classroom: children are classically conditioned to: associate a song with a positive feeling in the classroom or can associate criticism with fear of the classroom. Ex: child fails test is criticized produces anxiety associates test with anxiety. Discrimination: the organism responds to certain stimuli but not others, example, student takes test in different classes, student does not become nervous about taking english test, student discriminates between the different subjects. Extinction: the weakening of the conditioned response (cr) in the absence of the unconditioned stimulus (ucs, ex: as the student, who has test anxiety, begins to do better on tests, the anxiety will fade or become extinct.
