Job that we do in society should be done by the common good. People in a democracy are manipulated by sophists. Allegory of the cave refers to socrates. Auxiliaries- courage is the most important attribute. Protect the republic from the outside forces (ex. Workers- allowed to marry, have families, and own property. Rulers/guardians- no families; no luxuries, they are rulers because it is their duty to the community. Civic virtues can be taught and must be directed from the rulers. All education is designed to serve the state. Each class has its own public education so they can understand the benefit their class brings to the republic.
