Department of kinesiology was formerly known as department of physical education. Physical education with a concentration in athletic training. Concentration: sport communication, sport management, sport psychology. Late 80"s- initiated process of having named changed to department of kinesiology. Exsc is largest major in the department and the college of health professions. Physical education was previously what is now known as exercise science. Pe used to be dominated by physicians who specialized in health and exercise. Now: changed to games and sports curriculum led by coaches in the classroom--- Physicians disappeared from the field when this change happened. Exercise was now viewed as part of a lifestyle, once called the six things non natural . Physicians duties focused on the preservation and promotion of health and the prevention of disease. Importance of exercise and diet, or what became known as regimen. Two most prominent physicians of the ancient world: hippocrates and galen. Food and exercise both work together to produce health.
