According to the national institute of mental health = an eating disorder is marked by extremes. It is present when a person experiences serve disturbances in eating behavior, such as extreme reduction of food intake or extreme overeating, or feeling of extreme distress or concern about body weight or shape . Like most mental illnesses, the person is often not aware of it > distorted body image . Typically more common in women, but more and more men are being treated each year. Roots in childhood, but blazingly apparent during college years. Female in sports that emphasize looks > dancing, ice skating. A 2008 survey from unc chapel hill and self magazine reported. 75% of women report distorted eating behaviors or symptoms consistent with eating disorders; so three out of four have an unhealthy relationship with food or their bodies. 67% of women (excluding actual eating disorders) are trying to lose weight.
