Physical contact or holding the newborn while on the operating room table or in the recovery room. Surgical preparation > abdominal prep, foley catheter, starting iv infusion, and epidural placement. Repeat caesarian = if anxious discuss any fears or anxieties and provide reassurance and support. Emergency caesarian = couple may need time to assimilate and gather more information. Check women"s vitals every 5 minutes until stable > every 15 minutes for an hour > every 30 minutes until discharged. Check dressing and perineal pad every 15 minutes for at least an hour.
