Engagement = when the widest part of the presenting part has passed through the inlet. Floating = fetal head is directed down toward the pelvis but can easily move away from the inlet. Station = relationship of presenting part to an imaginary line between the ischial spines > ischial spines are zero station. Cervical effacement = how thin the cervix is getting. Beginning of labor = no dilation and fetal head is cushioned by amniotic uid.
