Today, it is necessary to have a business expertise to function in the public recreation field. Previously, having a business expertise was thought of as extra in recreational field. Recreation programming-creating leisure opportunities that are either passive or active. Facilities management-providing recreational space to other entities that facilitate activities independently (pools) Parks-equipping, maintaining and facilitating programs in park on a local, regional or national scale. Outdoor education-naturalist-utilizing outdoor or indoor nature centers/parks to facilitate educational programs regarding nature (boy scouts) Therapeutic recreation-leisure programming for those who are either mentally or physically challenged as well as the elderly. Recreation administration-executive branch of a recreation entity that makes overall decisions regarding policy and procedures. Using private business models to develop better public recreation models. People don"t want taxes to increase to pay for recreation. Recreation for children requires active programming to keep them fit-become an extension of a parent. Young adults want new types of programs.
