Document Summary

Psychology - science of behavior and mental processes. Mental processes - everything we can not observe or see(feeling emotions, beliefs) Science - how you study something not what you study , therefore, psychology is a science. Health psychology - branch of psychology interested in affecting one"s physical and psychological health or the scientific study of how psychological, behavioral, and sociocultural factors contribute to health. Somebody is healthy if they don"t have a disease or illness. This works for infectious diseases, however, as diseases change over time the biomedical model does not work. Chronic diseases are different and that is what affects our health now. The biomedical model has fallen out of favor. This all leads to outcome about health and disease. Health psychology 40 years- 1978 (even smaller baby science) apa officially recognized this as a subfield. This is why we don"t have great textbooks for the field.
