When the drug is washed out and they;re back on a placebo drug, the cholesterol levels resume back to prior levels. 20 mg qd: a reduction in plasma cholesterol. Dose dependence: 40 mg bid gives a larger reduction in plasma cholesterol vs patients on 20 mg qd. Dose dependent response in the decrease of ldl across different statins. Treatment with statins can be expected to reduce the 5-year incidence of major cv events by ~20% for every 1 mmol/l reduction in ldl. Statins work very well if they can tolerate them. Myopathy: disease of the muscle, acquired or inherited. Myalgia: muscle aches or weakness without creatine kinase elevation. Rhabdomyolysis: breakdown of the muscles; ck elevation. Monitor lipid profile to make sure the statin is working or if there needs to be an adjustment. Liver function enzymes at baseline and after starting treatment. Monitoring if the patient might have any muscle-related symptoms.
