Established by carolus linnaeus (1735: genus = first name always capital, specific epithet = species name = not capitalized (both underlined or italicized) You can"t tell from genus and species what kind of organism youre dealing with. Name may be descriptive or honor someone. Descriptive species name are the same doesnt mean related. Prokaryotic = no nuclear membrane around organelles. Peptidoglycan = cell wall made of carbs and proteins (not always, typically) Binary fission = how bacteria reproduce, splitting in half. Flagella = appendages that allow for swimming. Derive nutrition from organic or inorganic chemicals or photosynthesis.
