Four major themes in all types of biology: cell theory, metabolism and flow of energy via atp, flow of genetic information, evolution - organisms evolve over time. Human features: great manual dexterity large brain for body size, analytical and verbal skills, elaborate social behavior complex culture. Energy flow, material cycling: virtually all life is sustained by energy from the sun, energy flow is one way (toward equilibrium) raw materials are recycled among organisms. Photosynthetic (green) plants and cyanobacteria (bg algae) = producers. High level consumers = mammals, carnivores, large animals.
