Outer shell of dense white osseous tissue called compact bone. This shell encloses the medullary cavity, or marrow cavity, which contains bone marrow. Spongy bone is at the ends of the bone (always enclosed by compact bone) Its shaft is called the diaphysis (provides leverage)
