Spontaneous generation- living things arise from nonliving matter. *the surface area of a cell is proportional to the square of its diameter. *the volume of a cell is proportional to the cube of its diameter. Transmission electron microscope (tem) uses a beam of electrons in place of light so that scientists can see the ultrastructure (detail to molecular level) and have good resolution (ability to reveal detail) *extracellular fluid or tissue (interstitial) fluid is any fluid not contained in cells (blood plasm, lymph, etc. ) and intracellular fluid or cytosol is fluid in cell. Cholesterol- stiffen membrane in spots, high amounts can increase fluidity by preventing phospholipids from becoming packed closely together. Glycolipids- phospholipids with short carbohydrate chains on the membrane, help to form glycocalyx, a carb coating on the surface. *only about 2% of the membrane but constitute for about 50% of the membrane weight.
