Document Summary

History can be documented in a number of ways. The readings and documentaries that we had in class helped us to see all of the different ways that africans in the pre-colonial time documented history. There were three main ways that they managed to document history and that was orally, through writing, and drawings/sculptures. The first form of documenting history was orally when the africans did not necessarily have the tools to write and draw things. Africans passed along their history through oral traditions. 1 the story of sundiata, for example, was a result of oral traditions and it being based down for generations until they could actually write a book about it. This was the principal means in passing down history in every african society. 2griots were incredibly popular in these days. They were usually elder men who sang songs and played instruments to tell a piece of history.
