Winston Churchill's "Iron Curtain Speech"
• One side of the curtain is controlled by Soviets
• Other controlled by Britain
• Iron curtain is currently metaphorical but the Berlin wall will come in soon
• Eleanor Roosevelt was angered by the speech and felt he was tarnishing FDR's reputation
Containment and the Truman Doctrine
• George Kennan
• Soviets were trying to expand communism and they are trying to contain the expansion of such
ideas
• Truman Doctrine: US will help any country who is trying to combat communism
Berlin Blockade and Airlift
• Nothing gets in or out in order to starve it to death
• Berlin divided into 3 different zones. Two for allies and one for the soviets
• Flew planes over Berlin to drop in supplies
