Dr. phil in his day; he was very popular. 1899, asked freud for a consultation (freud was 43, adler was 29) 1902, freud encouraged him to join a small discussion group. 1912, published the neurotic constitution, causing a complete separation from freud; this break caused great animosity between them and they openly criticized each other. After their break, considerable animosity toward each other (book indicates this)
