When it comes to sexuality, there are two societal forces that guide us in thinking about sexuality. Religion across time has been the way that you identify with your group -- something that provided authority, guidelines as to what is/isn"t acceptable, etc. You know them, but sometimes you go outside the realm of the laws and break them by speeding, etc. Your desire to perform an action outweighs the consequences that might follow breaking the law. When you"re caught (like if you get a speeding ticket), though, you go back to being good. We see that there are consequences and punishment for our actions. We have defined what is normal based on what is publicly accepted and appropriate. Religion, politics and where you"re from play a huge role in defining who you are.
