Document Summary
Thinking, the mind, memory, decision making, concept formation, language, problem solving, creativity, mental imagery, artificial intelligence, cognitive neuroscience. There are different explanations to problem solving: associationists: trial and error, reinforcement/punishment, learn stimulus and response, gestalt: insight, whole is greater than the sum of the parts, sudden and unpredictable. Reproductive problem solving: use solutions that are already known (the jar example) Algorithm: step by step solution, follow until reached. Mental set effects: prior knowledge becomes an impediment due to constant reproductive problem solving. Insight solutions: the solution suddenly appears; an insight occurs to what the solution is. It is not known that the solution is about to come. Fixation: the initial block to solving problems; getting stuck . Individuals sometimes place their own constraints to different problems. ; things that are originally not part of the problem. Side not: anxiety can make you more fixated than normal.
