States and national governments both have a form of constitution. When evaluating these constitutions, the main purposes that stick out are they are a form of legitimacy, provides the basic framework, and they limit power towards the government. When looking into each purpose legitimacy covers where political power comes from, as well as, what the power can be used for and where it can be used. By constitutions providing the basic framework it allows for the allocation of power to different institutions, and creates the rules on how to make decisions. Many state constitutions compare to the federal constitution in many different ways. However, there are still plenty differences among the many constitutions. One of the main similarities between the two different constitutions would be that the purposes and traditions that were brought and stayed seem to be the same.
