Suburban government in texas looks different than the rest of the us. Around late 19th century it was urbanization would actually be called suburbanization. Suburb a land use, not a political entity but rather a way of life, low density of development. Agriculture or natural resource extraction means that a place is not suburban. Suburban cheaply detached single family housing dominates the suburban land usage. Social / economic causes old cities limited by: Construction (buildings were limited to a short size) Labor force would have to be mobile and specially constrained. People still sheparded sheep in manhattan until the late 1800"s. Public transit enabled people to live and work in different places. Suburbanization fastest rate of suburbanization 1950-1980 but has slowed down since the 1980"s. Very high economic growth rate after wwii which gave people money to buy houses. Construction became cheaper and manufacturing and industrial changed from vertical to horizontal design.
