Document Summary

5:23 pm: crucial for every act in the body, chemical make up. Proteins - more complex than carbs and lipids: basic structure. Amino group + acid group - backbone. Each amino acid has a different side chain that"s attached to the backbone. If you have a healthy adult, we only need 9 amino acids. Different circumstances call for different amino acids that become essential. Significantly premature babies need 11 amino acids for a bit. Every protein has a unique function based on order and types of amino acids. Chemistry of side chains forces different shapes. Single change in amino acid = normal -> sickle cell anemia. Protein turnover: proteins are continually being made and broken down. Ex dead red blood cell: need amino acids to build proteins and new tissues. We loose protein every day, must consume protein every day!!
