Large Consumption Chronic Effects of Alcohol

3 stages of Toxic Effects on the Liver
Stage one
One week of drinking 5-6 alcoholic beverages each day produces
fatty liver
As few as 2-3 days for females
Several days of abstaining from alcohol, the liver returns to normal
Stage two
Continued use for several weeks of high volume consumption can
cause alcoholic hepetitis, which can be fatal (inflammation of
liver)
This stage can also be reversible if intake of alcohol ceased
Stage three
Scars begin to form on liver, causing hardening of liver and
functional tissue is reduced and is called cirrhosis and often fatal
This stage cannot be reversed
Stomach
Chronic gastritis (an inflamed stomach)
Can cause cancer along digestive tract (15x if person is a smoker)
Pancreas
Pancreatitis (most common cause)
Peripheral tissues
Increased risk of type II diabetes
