Us had tried to remain neutral up to this point. Women and minorities move into work force while men overseas: building airplanes, supporting the war effort. 27% of texans employed in essential industries and military establishments. Corpus christi naval air station: commissioned 1941, 800 instructors train more than 300 cadets per month, 35000 naval aviators earn wings here, basic and advanced training facilities. Only one in us to have both: at one time was largest pilot training facility in the world, george h. w. bush earned wings here in 1943; youngest cadet to do so. Texas has twice as many pow camps as any other state; due to space and climate. International law states that pow must be held in climate similar to where they were captured.
