World war i was fresh in people"s minds. 39% of people thought it was a mistake for us to enter. People were not as well versed in how much ww1 cost/how many casualties, but most said it would be cheaper to enter ww2. 1940 gallup poll : 12% wanted to enter, 88% wanted to stay out. End of 1940: 15% wanted to enter, 85% wanted to stay out. President roosevelt was trying to get people to support the war. Was a big deal with international press. Said it was a new magna carta.
