FIVS 123 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, Bog, Humus
Document Summary
Type of matter known as an amorphous solid. Properties of both a solid and a liquid. So pervasive and can often be carried away from the scene undetected. Stable evidence (does not decay under normal circumstances and can be a vulnerable part of a pool of evidence used to build a case) Used to make windows and other flat glass objects. One side of it will fluoresce in uv light. Often used to decoration and, sometimes, to reduce glare or heat penetration. Does not break easily when its temperature is rapidly increased or decreased, making it ideal for applications such as cookware. Made by doping molten glass with boron. Relatively rare, due to the lead oxide additive, which gives the glass a higher refractive index and causes the desired sparkle and the characteristic ping sound. Found in crystal wine glasses, figurines, and paperweights. Used in automobile windows and plate glass windows in stores.
