Why there are so many species of insects: Insects are small -> can occupy a large number of habitats. Millipedes- mostly eat plants but some are poisonous. Acari (ticks and mites) - transmit multiple pathogens. Incomplete metamorphosis juveniles have wing buds on the outside. Complete metamorphosis juveniles have wing buds on the inside. Part of food web and serve as a source of food. Role in maintenance of animal community structure through predation and parasitism. Some insects destroy large amounts of crops causing massive losses in revenue and food.
