ENTO 210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Aedes Aegypti, Urinary Incontinence, Allergic Response
Document Summary
Mosquitos that are facultatively autogenous- will only lay eggs before blood feeding if it has suf cient nutritional reserves. In which group of insects have we seen multiple instances of the evolution of blood feeding- mallophaga. Mechanisms determines if aedes aegypti will seek another host after a blood meal degree of abdominal extension. Invaded brazil in the 1930"s causing a health emergency - anopheles gambiae. Allergic reaction- out of proportion reaction of the immune system to a relatively harmless substance. Local allergic reaction- where the allergen makes contact with body. Large local reaction- a local reaction surrounding the site of contact but much stronger can spread all over your body. Systemic allergic reaction = anaphylaxis- this happen when allergen spread through the body through the blood or lymph. Allergic response can happen anywhere on the body. Anyone that has had a systemic reaction to an allergen is at risk of developing anaphylactic shock with a future exposure.
