Document Summary
Associative learning approach basic stimuli will cause a response. Largely based on research with animals (not the same as humans) Observing and modeling (animals are alone; without influence of others humans are reassuring) Need to include concepts like observation, cognition, perceiving. Group 1 control condition: periodic shocks can be prevented by pressing a lever. Group 2 no control condition: periodic shocks but no control in preventing shock. Group 2 no control condition: did not attempt to move/change despite the opportunity, when put in environments with no control, person develops anxiety depression, but, not all the dogs became helpless. As in humans, not all people with bad outcomes give up and become depressed. Attribution = process of judging the cause of an event (why did something happen?)
